What we collect
When you create an account, we collect your email address, a hashed version of your password, and your display name and username. You may optionally provide your country of residence.
When you log a summit, we collect the photo you upload, a caption, the summit date, and any GPS or EXIF metadata embedded in the photo. We use this data solely to verify that the summit occurred at the correct location.
If you enable live altitude tracking, we collect GPS coordinate readings for the duration of your tracking session. These are tied to your account and the session record.
How GPS and EXIF data is used
GPS coordinates and EXIF metadata from summit photos are used exclusively for summit verification. Our system compares the coordinates embedded in your photo against the known coordinates of the mountain you claim to have summited.
This data is not sold, shared with advertisers, or used for any purpose other than verification. We do not build movement profiles or track your location outside of explicit summit logging and live tracking sessions you initiate.
Photo storage
Photos you upload are stored in Supabase Storage. Access to your photos is restricted to you and PeakView administrators who review summit verification requests. Photos are not publicly accessible by default unless you choose to make a summit log public.
We do not use your photos for training machine learning models or for any commercial purpose outside of operating the verification system.
Data retention and deletion
You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your profile, summit logs, GPS data, uploaded photos, and all associated records from our systems within 30 days.
Some aggregate, anonymised statistics (such as total verified summits per mountain) may be retained after account deletion, but these are not linked to your identity.
